The perfect combination of creativity meets celebrity made for some of the best commercials during this year’s super bowl. Take a look at my top 5:
I don’t know about you, but I’ve hopelessly attempted to perform the the Patrick Swayze-Jennifer Grey move from “Dirty Dancing” and have failed miserably. However, after a TD in practice, Quarterback Eli Manning and receiver O’Dell Beckham Jr. perform the best celebration of the year, a hands down perfect execution of the move. Not to mention, it seems like they had the time of their life shooting this.
“His bleep don’t stink”
Generally, you’d expect to see some pretty woman spraying febreze around a perfectly decorated room with curtains blowing in the wind and flowers coming out of the bottle. Instead, febreze stepped up to the plate and delivered a hilarious ad playing off the fact that people use febreze because people’s bleep stinks. Not Dave, Dave’s bleep don’t stink… just ask his ex girlfriend, wrestling coach, doctor, parents, and janitor.
3) Michelob Ultra
The commercial begins with Chris Pratt receiving a call that he is going to be in Michelob Ultra’s new commercial. He thinks this means he is going to be the new face of the beer. About 40 seconds in Chris Pratt is actually using a tiny weight to train his wrists for proper beer sipping. After staring at himself in the mirror with a Michelob Ultra in hand and telling everyone he knows about his new role, he shows up and is nothing but one of many extras.
Amazon killed their Super Bowl spot this year. I don’t know about you but I would be pretty dang excited if Cardi B started talking to me through Alexa in my living room, considering half the time I’m asking Alexa to play “Bodak Yellow” anyways. The actors featured include Gordon Ramsay, Cardi B, Rebel Wilson, and Anthony Hopkins stepping in to take over for the sick Alexa.
5) Doritos Blaze vs. Mountain Dew Ice – Joint commercial with Doritos and Mountain Dew.
No matter what product you are advertising for, if you have Peter Dinklage and Morgan Freeman engaged in a lip sync battle, it’s going to be great and great it was. Not only were the actors perfect, the songs picked for the battle were perfect: “Look at Me Now” and “Get Your Freak On.” This cross advertisement for Doritos and Mountain Dew was enormously successful.
