Top 9 Moments in UNC/Duke Basketball History

February 8, 2018

In honor of tonight's UNC/Duke matchup, here are my picks for the top 9 moments in the history of the greatest rivalry in sports.

9) 2007: Psycho T becomes Bloody T

In a game that was already in the bag for Carolina, Duke's Gerald Henderson came down hard on UNC's Tyler Hansbrough in a fight for a rebound, resulting in a broken nose for Hansbrough and an ejection for Henderson.

8) 2003: Coaches Scrum

UNC Coach Matt Doherty and Duke Assistant Chris Collins get into a shoving match.

7) 2008: Danny Green Posterizes Greg Paulus

UNC's Danny Green makes Duke's Greg Paulus look silly.

6) 1961: The Fight

UNC's Larry Brown, who went on to be a hall of fame coach, and Duke's Art Heyman, were involved in the best fight in rivalry history almost 60 years ago.

5)  1992: Bloody Free Throws

UNC's Eric Montross drains two free throws as blood pours down his face in this classic matchup where the Heels took down #1 Duke, who eventually went on to win the 1992 national championship.

4) 1974: The Greatest Comeback Ever

UNC overcomes an unbelievable 8 point deficit in 17 seconds to send the game into overtime, where the Heels eventually won the game.

3) 2012: The Buzzer Beater

Duke's Austin Rivers silenced a raucous Dean Dome crowd by hitting an iconic, game-winning buzzer-beater three over Tyler Zeller.

2) 1995: The Shot

Duke's Jeff Capel sent an epic game into a Double Overtime with this half-court buzzer beater. UNC still won the game.

1) 1995: "The Dunk"

Jerry Stackhouse throws down perhaps the most iconic dunk in UNC basketball history.
